For this project I was a one-woman shop working on the branding and design for the Emmy-Nominated documentary "Brooklyn Castle." This movie tells the stories of five members of the chess team at the below-the-poverty-line inner city junior high school that has won more national championships than any other in the country. These kids have heart, and being a born and raised Brooklyn girl- it was time to represent!
I worked with the director and her team to bring this story visually to life. I wanted the first poster to feel very iconic, and let one image do all the talking. My illustrated poster design for SXSW landed me a shout out in the New York Times Art Blog. I was soon asked to design all posters and collateral work when the movie was picked up for distribution. For this direction I allowed each child's individuality to shine through with the help of a chess piece to represent their personality.
